How are GotSoccer Ranking points calculated

Quick Answer:  The team's placement determines the percentage of max points awarded.
Maximum points for a team = Flight Value - Team Deduction

When a team has success in an event or league, they may be awarded placement points and/or bonus points. A series of calculations are made before we award these points that takes many things into account.

Flight Value

Definition: These are the available points to be won for the teams in the flight. 

Each flight will have its own value and is based on the top 5 ranked teams in the flight. The total points contributed by these top 5 teams is then averaged to give us the Flight Value.

 

The points contributed by each team is calculated based on their national rank (USA). The point breakdowns are as follows:

• Teams in the top 1% contribute 10000 points.
• Teams in the top 2% contribute 7500 points.
• Teams in the top 3% contribute 5000 points.
• Teams in the top 5% contribute 3250 points.
• Teams in the top 7% contribute 1918 points.
• Teams in the top 10% contribute 1185 points.
• Teams in the top 14% contribute 886 points.
• Teams in the top 20% contribute 623 points.
• Teams in the top 30% contribute 469 points.
• Teams in the top 40% contribute 313 points.
• Teams in the top 60% contribute 234 points.
• Teams in the lower 40% contribute 156 points. 

Team Deduction

Definition: 20% of your team's current national ranking points. Each team will most likely have different deductions based on their national ranking points.

Teams with more points will have a bigger deduction that those with fewer points. This is to balance the points awarded even when the competition is not level, and award teams that beat stronger competition.

Max Points for a team

Definition: Flight Value - Team Deduction = Max points for your team

The team's placement determines the percentage of max points awarded.

• Champions= 100% of your team's Max Points
  
• Finalists = 50% of your team's Max Points
  
• Semi-Finalists = 25% of your team's Max Points
  
• Quarter-Finalist = 12.5% of your team's Max Points

Bonus Points

Definition: Bonus points are additional points awarded to teams based on specific game results. These points are only available in GotSoccer events.

Bonus Points for individual games are also awarded in GotSoccer hosted events and leagues. 2 types of bonus points:

• Result bonus Points: Example - winning or drawing a game
• Achievement Bonus Points: Example - Beating a team ranked much higher

A teams rank will be the sum total of all these points
